Internship and Fellowship Programs
In addition to semester programs and shorter, student-led independent study, students may pursue internships and fellowships that enhance their capacity to engage globally.
Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships
Enhance your global capacity through foreign language skill and help finance your education. Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are an opportunity for US Citizens and Permanent Residents, full-time graduate and undergraduate students.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
Center for Undergraduate (and Graduate) Research and Fellowships
The Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF) serves as the University of Pennsylvania’s information hub and primary support office for Penn students and alumni considering applying for major grants and fellowships, including Fulbright, Gates, Clinton, and Cultural Vistas. At the website, you can search a fellowship directory, and add yourself to a mailing list, if appropriate.
Pan American Health Organization Internships (for SON Graduate Students)
As a World Health Organization Collaborating Center (WHOCC) for Nursing and Midwifery Leadership, Penn Nursing is regularly invited to nominate highly-motivated graduate students for unpaid internships in Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and World Health Organization offices in Washington, DC. During these internships students gain an understanding of global health and nursing issues in the context of an international health organization. Internship candidates with Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills are most attractive to PAHO. Interested students should contact Nancy Biller at nbiller@nursing.upenn.edu.
