MSN FAQs

Are programs offered online?
Our Streamlined Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP program and our Adult Oncology Specialst program are online. Our Adult Oncology Specialist and our Post-Master’s DNP are both in a hybrid format. All other programs are on campus.
Is there an admissions interview?

Competitive applicants will be invited to interview by the program faculty.

What are the guidelines for letters of recommendation?

We strongly recommend that you follow the recommendation format outlined on our website: academic, professional, and employer related recommendations. 

If I have started my application, can I edit my recommender’s contact information or replace a recommender?

If your recommender has not submitted their recommendation, you will be able to edit their information. If the recommender has submitted their recommendation, you will not be able to edit their information.

Can I apply to an MSN program if I have a direct entry master’s degree but not a BSN?

Yes, we accept direct entry master’s degrees.

Are GRE scores required for the MSN program?

As of July 1, 2021, the GRE is no longer required for the MSN program.

What will count for the required statistics course?

We only require a standard undergraduate statistics course for our graduate programs.

If I received credit from my AP Statistics course in high school, may I use this as my prerequisite statistics course for admission?

Yes, but the credit must appear on your undergraduate transcript.

How much is the total cost of the program I am applying to?

Are there financial aid options?

For full-time MSN programs, full-time students may be eligible to receive an endowed scholarship or may be eligible for Penn Nursing grants. Is work experience required?

Our acute care programs require experience in an acute care setting or a setting specific to that program. Please find a list of programs and their minimum work experience requirements on this page.

What are the requirements for international applicants?

International applicants are required to submit a World Education Services (WES) International Credential Package or a Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Credentials Evaluation Service full education course-by-course report (purpose: Academic) for all transcripts.

The TOEFL or IELTS is required for non-native English speakers. If you received your undergraduate degree from an institution in which the primary language of instruction was English, you do not need to submit the TOEFL or IELTS.
